Innovation of the Service System of Public Officials for Creation of Family-Friendly Working Conditions (February, 2018)

The family-friendly working environment will be built to provide maternity and childcare support, and the culture valuing the work-life balance will be promoted through improvement of related institutions.

The low birth rate issue will be solved by improving systems to allow public officials who are newly married and raising children to juggle work and life.
The short working hour program for pregnant public officials will be expanded to cover the entire period of pregnancy.
   * As-is: For maternity protection, female public officials who are 12 or less weeks pregnant and those who are 36 or more weeks pregnant are allowed to shorten their working hours by up to 2 hours a day for rest or medical care
To-be: Female public officials are allowed to shorten their working hours by up to 2 hours a day for the entire period of pregnancy.

For childcare of husbands, the number of days of the maternity leave of spouses will be increased to 10 days (from 5 days) and the childcare hours* will be applied to those who have a child aged 5 or younger.
    * As-is: Public officials who have a child aged below 1 are allowed to shorten their working hours by 1 hour per day
To-be: Public officials who have a child aged 5 or younger are allowed to shorten their working hours by up to 2 hours a day for childcare.

The scope of the childcare leave (for up to 2 days) allowed only for official school events will be expanded to cover medical care, medical examinations and vaccinations. Up to 3 days of leaves will be given to public officials who have 3 or more children.
