Purpose

  • Improving the language skills of civil servants who can lead the global era and nurturing experts in foreign language-related fields such as international affairs
  • Strengthening the competitiveness of government human resources by improving the foreign language skills of civil servants

Overview

  • Number of trainees: 300 per year

    The number of trainees can be adjusted by comprehensively taking into consideration the number of applicants and evaluation results

  • Curriculum : English, Japanese, Chinese and special foreign languages*

    German, French, Russian, Spanish, Malay/Indonesian, Arabic, Vietnamese, etc.

  • Education institutions: University-affiliated language institutes such as Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Foreign Language Training & Testing Center), Yonsei University (Foreign Language School), KAIST (Language Center), etc
  • Training period: Twice a year, 3 months for each program

Overview on education expense support

Eligible trainees: State civil servants
  • Persons with strong public service values such as their level of contribution to their jobs, view of the State, view of public office, and development potential
  • Persons who need foreign language skills for the performance of their duties, those who are scheduled to be trained abroad, those who are scheduled to be dispatched to international organizations, those who work in the Office of International Cooperation, etc. of a ministry, etc
  • The work conditions at the affiliated institution should not cause any disruption to the language course and in particular, evening courses should be in the near vicinity so that the location of the institution does not interfere with attendance after work
  • A person who meets the requirements of Article 32 of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Capacity Development of Public Officials
  • Excluded from applying if:
    • Specific positions (prosecutors, teachers, soldiers, military personnel) and city officials
    • One year has not passed since the end of the disposition after receiving disciplinary action
    • Applicants who have already been selected for foreign language education courses within the last year (including those who have given up on registration after being selected)

      Applications can be made if the course that was previously applied for was not opened and no training was provided

      If a trainee withdraws midway after the final selection, the person will be restricted from selection for 2 years

    • Selected candidates for the weekly course are excluded from recommendation regardless of the selection year
    • Those who have been selected for domestic long-term or short-term training courses and have overlapping training periods are excluded from recommendation
Payment: Semi-annual post-payment

※ Tuition support is provided when the trainee meets the payment criteria after completing a language education program at his/her own expense
